The Statistics Speak For Themselves

Being a first responder or soldier is a difficult profession that can lead to mental health struggles due to accumulative trauma and those struggles should not be left untreated. More police officers died by suicide than in the line of duty in 2018. This was the case the previous year and the year prior to that and is already the case this year according to Blue Help. Another study by the Ruderman Family Foundation found that firefighters are also more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty and currently, about 22 veterans die by suicide every day—a rate 1.5 times higher than those who have not served in the military.

A 2015 survey of more than 4,000 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers found that 6.6 percent had attempted suicide, which is more than 10 times the rate in the general population. (www.ems1.com)

On April 11, 2017 the USA Today reported that in 2016, suicides left more police officers and firefighters dead than all line of duty deaths combined.

According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, in 2016 suicide rates increased substantially from previous years among young military veterans ages 18-34.

It's a course. Not a support group.

Though we do provide support, and we are are a group, we are much more than just a “support group.” You won’t find any rambling or whining in our groups – only productive conversations.

“Nothing in our training prepares us for how what we experience will change us and not for the better. I believe this course should be mandatory for all first responders. I didn’t realize how much I was carrying and am thankful for how this course has helped me recognize that and has helped me to start working through my “stuff”.”
